Who is this test suitable for?
Anyone can take a lateral flow test to check if they have Covid-19.
Some common reasons for using a lateral flow test include:
- To check if you have Covid-19 without symptoms
- Recently been in close contact with someone who is infected with the virus
- Going to an event that requires Covid-19 testing (wedding, concert, theatre, etc.)
- Visiting friends and family
What is a lateral flow test?
Lateral flow tests work by mixing a sample with a solution that unleashes specific viral proteins. That combination is then applied to a paper strip that contains a bespoke antibody optimised to bind these proteins if they are present. Like a home pregnancy test, the result is reflected as a band on the paper strip. The process doesn’t require a lab and can be done in up to 20 minutes.
When will my tests be delivered?
Orders received before 3pm are dispatched the same day (Mon-Fri). Standard delivery (3-5 working days) is free, or upgrade to Royal Mail Tracked 24 for only £2.
Why are lateral flow tests important?
Covid-19 is a communicable (infectious) disease and can be passed onto others very quickly. You should follow guidance to ensure that you don't pass the virus onto others. This is still the case if you have been vaccinated, especially due to the emergence of new variants. Testing regularly helps control the spread of the virus.
Do I need to get tested if I’ve been fully vaccinated?
Regardless of your vaccination status, you can still get infected with Covid-19 and therefore, to control the spread of the virus, it is recommended that you take the test if you are planning to mix with people in crowded indoors or have been in close contact with an infected person.
Will I get a certificate?
Can I use this test for travel?
What is included?
Your test pack includes at-home lateral flow tests, complete with a full set of easy-to-understand instructions to help you perform the test correctly. You will also receive a doctor-signed general certificate within two hours of registering your result, at no additional cost.
How long does it take to get a result?
It takes less than 20 minutes to get your results. Doctor-signed certificates are issued within two hours of submitting a photo of your result.
What are the possible results?
Negative You do not have any evidence of an active infection.
Positive The Covid-19 virus has been detected on your swab. You will not be able to travel or reduce your quarantine time, and we will inform NHS Public Health about your positive result. Medicspot will provide you with a free private doctor consultation if you test positive.
Inconclusive/Needs Repeated Very infrequently, your swab result will need to be repeated. This may occur due to poor sample taking technique. If your result is inconclusive, we will offer you a replacement test.
How do I take the test?
A lateral flow test involves rolling a swab inside of each nostril. You should do this five times in each nostril to ensure a good quality sample. The swab is then placed into a liquid to allow the Antigen to dissolve in the liquid. This liquid is then dripped onto the device's pad, producing a reaction that gives a result. See the below for a step by step visual on how to perform the test on yourself. Instructions will be provided.
