What is an observed covid test?
An observed covid test is a covid testing methodology that involves having a trained professional observe you while you take your covid test.
Having a witness observe your test ensures your covid test was genuinely taken by you. Certain countries specifically request that you take an observed covid test to enter.
At Medicspot, we sell Observed Antigen Covid Tests. That is where you take an antigen covid test as normal, but the difference between an observed antigen test and a normal antigen test is you have to take the observed test while there is a Medicspot trained professional observing you over a video call. Our Observed Antigen Tests are £21.99, and that includes the antigen test kit and the video observation.
Is an observed lateral flow test accepted for travel to New Zealand?
New Zealand accepts antigen tests that are observed. You can buy our Observed Antigen Test for £21.99.
Can I use an observed lateral flow test accepted for travel to the USA and Canada?
No. Starting from 13 June 2022, fully vaccinated travellers arriving in the USA or Canada are no longer required to take any covid tests prior to their departure.
How to book and take the observed lateral flow test?
Before you purchase our Observed Antigen Test package, you will have the chance to see a calendar and availability slots for an observation appointment with our trained advisors.
You then select the date and time that suits you, and then you will be taken to the cart page to complete the purchase of the Observed Antigen Test. Once you have purchased the package, you’ll receive an email confirming the date and time of your observation appointment, along with a video call link for you to attend on the day.
You’ll receive your postal antigen test between 1 to 5 days, depending on the delivery option you choose.

Why is it important to be tested for Covid-19 when travelling?
Covid-19 is a communicable (infectious) disease and can be passed onto other people even more easily when in confined spaces (such as planes). It is imperative that you follow medical guidance to ensure that you don't pass the virus onto others when travelling or returning back. This is still the case if you have been vaccinated - especially due to the emergence of new variants
Air travel, in particular, can be dangerous when suffering from a respiratory illness such as Covid-19 because of the drop in oxygen that occurs at altitude. It is imperative that you don't have any symptoms of a respiratory infection before you fly. You will be asked a series of questions upon registering your kit to ensure you are not suffering from any of these type of symptoms.
When do I need to take my test?
We recommend ordering your self-swab kit as soon as possible. Check the timeline requirements for your destination country here.
How will I receive my results?
This test is a medically led diagnostic test to inform you whether you are currently infected with Covid-19. Medicspot, a CQC registered healthcare provider with medical team supervision, will analyse the result. At the registration stage of the process (after you have purchased and have your test kit in hand), you can decide to be sent your results via email with a free doctor-signed certificate.
What type of test is required?
The test must meet the performance standards set by WHO (the World Health Organisation).
- ≥97% specificity
- ≥80% sensitivity
These standards apply to viral loads above 100,000 copies/ml. Medicspot’s rapid antigen test exceeds the standards set out by WHO.
Do I need to get tested if I’ve been vaccinated for Covid?
This depends on your destination country. Please check the rules for your destination country.
What if my test result comes back inconclusive?
We cannot issue a fit to fly certificate for international travel if your test result comes back inconclusive.
Do I need to register my kit?
You must register your kit before performing your swab. If you have problems registering your kit on a mobile device, please use a desktop computer. If you need further assistance, our dedicated customer service team will be happy to help via live chat.
